Welcome to Inverlochy Art School

Inverlochy Art School, in central Wellington, offers a fabulous range of highest quality part time art classes taught by a friendly and welcoming community of enthusiastic and talented practicing artists.

We offer classes for kids and beginners, and ongoing progressive classes for advanced practitioners. Our classes are small and fees usually include all materials. We have a maximum student limit for each course, giving you the best tutor/student ratio possible.

We are located in the atmospheric, grade II listed, historic Inverlochy House in the Te Aro district of Wellington.

Please feel free to invite friends to enrol for a course; any social media exposure and sharing course details would be much appreciated and will help Inverlochy run more courses in the future.

The Sculpture Process - Figurative Sculpture -Term 1: Sculpting the Head with Sarah Brock ( Evenings)

This is a four-part course that takes place across the year. You can start at the beginning of any term, working with the topic of that term as your starting point, continuing to develop a full understanding of sculpting the figure and face.
The objective of the full course is to give you a broad understanding of figurative sculpture to take into your own art making, whether that be working from a live model or building imaginative figurative sculptures.

The class will be taught using water based clay. Firing of your work is available for a small additional fee.

Term 1: Sculpting the head Working on a half-life size head, we will build the head from the basic skull shape outwards. This approach means that you gain an understanding of how the muscles of the face work. The tutor will demonstrate the step by step process so it’s easy to build a very realistic head even with very limited experience.

Term 2: Sculpting the torso
Term 3: Sketching the figure in clay
Term 4: Building a 12-inch figure/Armature techniques

All basic materials supplied including half a bag of Laguna EM210 clay per student.

N.B. There is a separate fee for each term; each term is a new course.
