Torch-fired Enamelling with Natalie Halley (Weekend Workshop)
In this fun weekend workshop, we will explore some simple techniques of torch-fired enamelling. Enamelling is one of the oldest methods used to decorate metal. By fusing glass-like powders onto copper (or silver) you can create colourful and imaginative designs and easily turn them into simple pendants or earrings, even without previous jewellery making experience. You will first learn some fundamentals such as preparing your enamel powders and metals, and create a couple of test pieces. Demonstrations will then be given on some straightforward techniques, from simply mixing different colours together, to using stencils and “Sgraffito” (where you scratch through a top layer to expose a layer of a different colour underneath). The class is suitable for all levels of jewellery making.
