Adrift

Adrift presents the first solo exhibition of paintings by Wellington artist, Sarah Hume.

Paintings in this exhibition showcase the range of Hume's expansive painting practice, from landscapes and water to the animal kingdom. Her artwork is characterised by close observation, focusing on depth, colour and light. "{I am} inspired by the organic shapes and colours in nature: the flowing movement of water, the twisted stems of plants, and the shifting patterns of light".

Also included in this exhibition are artworks created while on an artist retreat in Sicily, adding desert golds and browns to her usual palette of calming greens and blues.

Please join the artist to celebrate this exhibition on Saturday 9 August, 4 pm - 5:30 pm.

Sarah Hume is a nature-inspired artist whose work celebrates the beauty and diversity of the natural world. Drawing from her travels across the globe, her paintings capture memorial moments of colour and intrigue.

Sarah is a long-time student at Inverlochy Art School, where she has refined her technique under the tuition of her mentor, Christine Gregory. Working primarily in oils, she uses multiple layers of paint to create depth, movement, and vibrancy in her work.

A recurring theme in Sarah’s work is Golden Bay, a place of special significance from her childhood, known for its stunning natural beauty and spiritual atmosphere. Each summer, she returns there with family to reconnect with the land and gather inspiration. One of her favourite subjects is the sacred Te Waikoropupū Springs, famous for its ‘dancing sands’, vibrant colours, and crystal-clear waters.

In 2024, Sarah expanded her creative practice by painting ‘Plein Air’ on the streets of Sicily, creating a series of live works with artists from around the world.

Now, Sarah is proud to present her first solo exhibition ‘Adrift’. She hopes it inspires others to appreciate the colours and beauty of our natural world.
