Course Details

In this course you will study the human figure through clay sculpting from a live model. You will explore the fundamental proportions of the figure; the underlying rhythms to a particular pose that make it look dynamic and alive; and how to recreate the subtleties of the models character.  The close observation of volume, curves and angle relationships will sharpen your attention to detail, improving your overall observational skills and enhancing your artistry across all subjects and styles.

This course prioritises hands-on skill development over producing a finished project. Students will focus on mastering sculpting techniques, materials and equipment rather than leaving with a ready-made sculpture.

In this course you will -

  • Learn how to imbue a sense of the models personality into your  sculpture
  • Learn the fundamental proportions of the human figure
  • Learn different approaches to rendering the surface of your sculpture
  • Explore traditional working methods in sculpting

Course fee includes model, tutor, use of clay, necessary tools & equipment. Please note the following:

  • If at the end of the course, you choose to keep your sculpture, there is a $25 additional charge for the clay.
  • You also have the option fire your sculpture in the Inverlochy kiln at the end of the course for an additional $60. The sculpture will be ready for collection 3-4 weeks later depending on drying conditions. The $60 extra fee includes the clay,  firing and a two hour workshop learning how to hollow out and prep your sculpture for firing.  Date, time and payment to be organised at your final class.
