Course Details
This is a beginners course in 2D animation where tweens & teens will learn the time-honoured principles of hand-drawn animation and how to apply them to your own animation project. You may work on a project incorporating your own ideas, or if you'd rather, an assigned a project from your tutor.
You can use any device, ipad or laptop you already own (except a mobile – it's really not big enough to do good animation on). The school does not provide any digital equipment. It's important that the app/programme is installed on the student's device before the course begins, and that they have had a play on it to get used to how it works. This is so that the student is at least a little familiar with their chosen software so that it's enough to begin learning animation techniques on day one. Additional information found here.
This workshop is for ages 10 and above.
Your tutor, Ross Payne, is a 30 year veteran of traditional 2D animation, and loves to share his
knowledge about it for you to love it as much as he does.
In each lesson there will be examples and demonstrations of the animation principles with follow up exercises to put your new skills into practice. You'll work on your project both during class and at home, applying the animation principles to your individualised project.
You can choose to draw your animation on paper then scan/capture into your device, or choose to
draw your animation digitally, directly into an animation programme. which ever you choose, instructions in class will be provided to give you the skills needed for this step.
Bring a water bottle and snack for morning tea.
