Due to numerous requests I have added a class for teenagers called Drawing and Painting for Teenagers to the holiday programme; we can taking bookings now for all next holiday courses, have a look at the programme. Our School Holiday Programme caters to 6 - 12 year olds while the Painting and Drawing for Teenagers caters to teenagers.

Please note some changes for Term 2:

Janice Kingston is not taking any classes this term; she will be back for term 3.

Basia's Printmaking class has moved from Wednesday Morning to Friday Morning for this term; the Open Studio print on Fridays has moved to Wednesday Morning; the Monday Open Studio print runs as usual.

I have programmed a Painting Open Studio for Friday Mornings.

Drawing: Developing your Technique

Tutor: Caroline Hillier

This course is intended for newcomers as well as those who have drawn before.

Drawing in its own right is a valued means of artistic expression and it also serves as a basis for many other art forms.

We will start with pencil drawing using line as a means of portraying the subject matter. We will then move onto tone techniques using shading to highlight form. Ultimately we will combine the use of line, texture and tone in portraying a variety of subjects. these will include still life and flowers, landscapes, buildings and figures.

All basic materials provided.

Caroline Hillier Tutor profile image

Caroline graduated in 1978 from the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design with an honours diploma in Visual Communications Design. Since then she has had wide experience in design and illustration both in New Zealand and in the United Kingdom. Throughout her career she has maintained a close interest in drawing and watercolour painting, with a particular emphasis on landscapes, townscapes, and on human and animal subjects. She has exhibited at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and elsewhere.
