Course Details

Christine creates an instructive and encouraging environment for those students wishing to take their work to the next level. Colour layering, composition and paint handling will be taught on an individual basis. All mediums(oils, acrylics, watercolours) are used as well as odourless solvents.    Returning students will find equally challenging and rewarding instruction from Christine and can either work on their own projects or follow the class direction with weekly classes on Tuesday morning or evening.

Each term an overriding theme is chosen (eg. Symbolism, Abstraction, Expressionism) with exercises and research into artists working in these genres.

This makes for a stimulating practise for students to experiment and develop their painting practise. For new students joining the group, Christine will teach the beginnings of how to paint a landscape based on student’s own drawings, photographs, memory and the imagination.

The techniques of overseas artists including Turner, Cezanne, Matisse and New Zealand artists such as Toss Woollaston, Colin McCahon and John Drawbridge will be looked at for keys to colour layering, composition and paint handling.

Basic materials are provided.
