Welcome to Inverlochy Art School

Inverlochy Art School offers a broad range of high quality art classes and workshops, taught by a community of enthusiastic and talented practicing artists all year round. We are located within central Te Aro, Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington.

Here at Inverlochy Art School, we believe in art for arts sake, and allow our students to find freedom in creative exploration. Whether it’s throughout the morning, on the weekend, after school for children, or at night for working professionals, our course schedule covers all bases.

Following the 06/09/21 announcement from the government that Pōneke will be moving to COVID-19 Alert Level 2, Inverlochy Art School will reopen its doors on the 8th of September.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of Inverlochy Art School's community, all visitors must sign in using either the COVID-19 app on the front door or the manual sign in register on the podium in the foyer. In addition, we ask that all students create their masterpieces one metre apart and wash and sanitize their hands regularly.

Introduction to Cold Wax Medium workshop with Anna Layzell (Saturday & Sunday, 30 &31 Oct 2021, 10am - 4pm)T4.21

We will begin by exploring different techniques on a small scale. Later you will be encouraged to explore techniques that resonate with you.

 In this workshop you will learn the following:

  • to mix the cold wax with oil paints
  • mark making with different drawing materials to activate the surface. Some marks will be revealed and some obscured with the addition of cold wax
  • layering and blending using a silicone wedge and adding marks using monotypes
  • different ways to add texture to your work including, scratching and experimenting with different materials such as corrugated cardboard and bubble wrap.
  • the use of Gamsol as a tool for removing layers and adding texture to your work

There is so much that can be done with this exciting and diverse medium. In this workshop you have the opportunity to experiment and play in a supportive environment. Class is suitable for those who are new to cold wax medium.
