PAINTING
Peter Coates

Peter has been exploring watercolour for over sixty years. Former teacher, stage designer and television producer-director, he is now concentrating on his first love, painting. His watercolour work is known for its colour, spontaneity and variety. His subject matter is close to his life experience, and his love for the Wellington landscape and lifestyle. The techniques he uses are very individualistic and, at times, somewhat eccentric. He believes very strongly that every artist needs to spend part of their time in experimentation, and he intends to encourage students to develop their own approach to the watercolour medium.
