An introductory class where we cover a wide range of jewellery making techniques and skills. The emphasis is on producing wearable items and, in the process, you will learn to cut, saw, hammer, shape, solder, file, sand, patina, polish and finish. From texturing your first silver ring to setting stones in brooches and pendants, this is a practical, hands-on workshop. The silver for your first ring is included in the course costs, as is copper to practice with, stones, saw blades, solder etc. Additional silver can be purchased at a reasonable price. No previous experience is necessary. Returning students will be challenged to extend their skills. In the home, lack of an appropriate plinth or hanging system can mean that your sculpture languishes on a bookshelf or clutters up the coffee table. This weekend workshop is designed to remedy that. We will be making plinths and designing systems for displaying sculpture in the domestic environment that will enhance the work and allow you, the artist, to relax and enjoy your creation. This is an opportunity to draw directly from the life model by immediately scratching into the surface of a sheet of Perspex or soft polmer using a sharp point, needle, sandpaper, etc. The morning will be spent drawing/etching the figure in to the plate, and the afternoon making prints in the print studio.
