This is a beginner’s introduction to art. Spend the first two weeks drawing a figure model and then develop your sketches into a painting experimenting with acrylic and traditional oil paints. Designed for those who have completed Portrait drawing and Painting Stage 1 or for those have had some experience in portraiture. We will extend existing skills in gaining a likeness, anatomy and drawing techniques. Janice will cover tone, colour mixing and composition in more depth and we will study methods different artists have used to convey mood and character. The anatomy of the whole figure will be included to gain an understanding of how underlying structure affects the clothed from. Hands will be studied in detail. Originally people were taught how to paint using oil paints. Acrylics became the substitute medium along with the belief these paints were easier and less messy. This is not necessarily so and people have retained a love and aspiration to paint in oils. Christine has an encouraging, lively way of working with students returning to the medium or beginners.
