Welcome to Inverlochy Art School

Inverlochy Art School, in central Wellington, offers a range of high quality casual art classes taught by a friendly and welcoming community of enthusiastic and talented practicing artists.

Our popular children's after school classes have resumed with Rowena and Rachel and our September/October holiday programme is up and running. We have Rowena Fry in week one and Cartooning & Zines for Tweens & Teens with Randy Wolf in week 2.

We offer classes for beginners, and ongoing progressive classes for advanced practitioners in drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration and silk screening. Our classes are small and most fees include all materials (check individual classes for details). We have a maximum student limit for each course, giving you the best tutor/student ratio possible.

We also run open studios for groups of artists who wish to meet regularly, or you can use our specialist print studio if you have printmaking experience. Please inquire for further details.

We are located in the atmospheric, grade II listed, historic Inverlochy House in the Te Aro district of Wellington.

We will all do our bit to stop Covid-19. We have contact tracing and a sign in sheet in our foyer for all who enter Inverlochy Art School and please students who are feeling unwell must stay home. Feel free to contact the management team with any queries or concerns you may have. We are here to help.

Expressive Painting with Justine Turnbull – Intermediate Level (Saturdays Daytime) T4.20

Whether you work from objects, the figure, or secondary sources, this is an opportunity to explore working more loosely using oils or acrylics. I will guide you through drawing and painting exercises to help loosen you up, and will discuss art historical techniques that may be relevant to your individual artistic style and context. You will develop a set of criteria to explore ways of representing perceived objects in a more dynamic, painterly way. The emphasis is on working with your chosen source material to create a `next level’ painting by the end of the term. This course may suit if you have explored some of the basics of painting such as mixing colours, blending etc, but want to find a process that best expresses your unique approach and ideas.

All materials provided.
