Welcome to Inverlochy Art School

Inverlochy Art School, in central Wellington, offers a range of high quality casual art classes taught by a friendly and welcoming community of enthusiastic and talented practicing artists.

Our popular children's after school classes have resumed with Rowena and Rachel and our September/October holiday programme is up and running. We have Rowena Fry in week one and Cartooning & Zines for Tweens & Teens with Randy Wolf in week 2.

We offer classes for beginners, and ongoing progressive classes for advanced practitioners in drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration and silk screening. Our classes are small and most fees include all materials (check individual classes for details). We have a maximum student limit for each course, giving you the best tutor/student ratio possible.

We also run open studios for groups of artists who wish to meet regularly, or you can use our specialist print studio if you have printmaking experience. Please inquire for further details.

We are located in the atmospheric, grade II listed, historic Inverlochy House in the Te Aro district of Wellington.

We will all do our bit to stop Covid-19. We have contact tracing and a sign in sheet in our foyer for all who enter Inverlochy Art School and please students who are feeling unwell must stay home. Feel free to contact the management team with any queries or concerns you may have. We are here to help.

Grammar of Drawing with Denise Durkin (Monday daytime 10am - 1pm) T3B.20

Please note: This is a 4 week course

This introductory class on Monday mornings focuses on tried and true systems for accurate drawing developed during the Renaissance and teaches a range of the formal (but fun) skills which every artist needs to know to start getting consistently good results.

You will come to understand how to break down the most complex composition into the sum of its parts. The use of lines, angles, shapes and symmetry will all be examined and practiced until you start to get the results you want.  Denise guarantees that identifying and focusing on these ‘art fundamentals’ will also help to make you a better painter. All materials provided.
