Welcome to Inverlochy Art School

Inverlochy Art School, in central Wellington, offers a range of high quality casual art classes taught by a friendly and welcoming community of enthusiastic and talented practicing artists.

We offer classes for beginners, and ongoing progressive classes for advanced practitioners in drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration and silk screening. Our classes are small and most fees include all materials (check individual classes for details). We have a maximum student limit for each course, giving you the best tutor/student ratio possible.

We also run open studios for groups of artists who wish to meet regularly, or you can use our specialist print studio if you have printmaking experience. Please enquire for further details.

At present we have paused our popular kids classes, but these will resume soon.

We are located in the atmospheric, grade II listed, historic Inverlochy House in the Te Aro district of Wellington.

Please feel free to invite friends to enrol for a course; any social media exposure and sharing course details would be much appreciated and will help Inverlochy run more courses in the future.

Expressive Painting with Justine Turnbull – Intermediate Level (Saturday daytime 10am - 1pm) T3A.20

Please note: Check the enrollment details carefully this is now a four week class.

Whether you work from objects, the figure, or secondary sources, this is an opportunity to explore working more loosely using oils or acrylics. Justine will guide you through drawing and painting exercises to help loosen you up, and discuss historical art techniques that may be relevant to your individual artistic style and context. You will develop a set of criteria to explore ways of representing perceived objects in a more dynamic, painterly way. The emphasis is on working with your chosen source material to create a `next level’ painting by the end of the term. This course may suit if you have explored some of the basics of painting such as mixing colours, blending etc, but want to find a process that best expresses your unique approach and ideas.
