Sculpt Expressive Faces - Summer School
This is a class where you learn the ins and out of faces...literally. The focus will be sculpting expressions. Knowledge of the anatomy and structure of the face - its bones and muscles - is essential for anyone wanting to have faces in their artwork, whether for drawings and paintings or fore sculpture.
Build a head using a simple step by step process. You will build two or three heads during the week Plastilina is recommended for this 'expressive' class - it is softer and easier to push around than other materials even though it doesn’t dry.
The class is about making a series of studies. Working with a very simplified skull, you will add features and muscles, then move them around. It is presented in step by step, easy to follow manner. Believe me, this is easy!
*Objectives: Gain an understanding of the proportions and main muscle masses in the face . Explore how to sculpt a few of the main human expressions (joy, anger, contempt, disgust, fear, sadness, and surprise)
*Outcomes: An ability to sculpt realistic expressions
* Develop more confidence in sculpting, drawing or painting faces because you have much more knowledge about what you are sculpting, drawing or painting
Plastilina (we supply two pack as part of the fee) is recommended for this class because being soft it is easy to move around into different expressions. (It’s available from Gordon Harris and is the material used for making stop motion animations like Wallace and Gromit).
You will need approximately one pack for each head (two are supplied). You can reuse the same Plastilina for all the heads. If you don’t want to reuse the Plastilina please bring along additional packs of your own.
All basic materials supplied including 2 packs of Plastilina (see text above).
