Welcome to Inverlochy Art School

Inverlochy Art School, in central Wellington, offers a fabulous range of highest quality part time art classes taught by a friendly and welcoming community of enthusiastic and talented practicing artists.

We offer beginner classes and ongoing progressive classes for advanced practitioners. Our classes are small and fees usually include all materials. We have a maximum student limit for each course, giving you the best tutor/student ratio possible.

We are located in the atmospheric, grade II listed, historic Inverlochy House in the Te Aro district of Wellington.

Please feel free to invite friends to enrol for a course; any social media exposure and sharing course details would be much appreciated and will help Inverlochy run more courses in the future.

Portrait Drawing

Explore this fascinating subject and develop accurate observation and competence in drawing and painting skills. We begin with a traditional approach, studying facial structure and anatomy, proportion and gaining likeness, tonal values, composition and drawing techniques. Colour mixing will be covered thoroughly for those wishing to use pastel or paint. After looking at styles of portraiture throughout history, a life model will be provided. You choose your media – pencil, pastel, watercolour, acrylic or oil.
